Impaled Northern Moonforest was an acoustic black metal band, formed in 1997 by Seth Putnam (vocals, percussion) and Josh Martin (acoustic guitar) of Anal Cunt to mock an extremely lo-fi sound and DIY aesthetics of true Norwegian black metal bands. INM released their demo recording on 7-inch limited to 200 hand-numbered copies on Menace To Sobriety Records and played half a dozen shows around Boston area, Rhode Island, Colorado and in Japan. While the project was meant as a joke, without any proper songwriting, rehearsing or practicing ever taking place, Impaled Northern Moonforest gained a cult status and following and the invented “acoustic black metal” genre turned into a meme, with some bands claiming to pursue it in a serious manner. INM self-titled 7” became a rare collectible for AxCx fans, and in 2010 this material was re-released on limited edition 12-inch.
