Single CA 1996 on Post Contemporary label
Electronic (Experimental, Ambient)
This is a numbered limited "flexi" disc with the 100th locked groove released on the label: Post Contemporary Notes from sleeve: this object is designed to decay. The flexible record is susceptible to folds and creases and is therefore the ideal format for opuscule #100. As the needle slips into the locked groove the music will play infinitely. The more it is played, the more the sound will evolve as your stylus wears through the soft, thin vinyl and carves its own groove. This jacket is made of photo-sensitive blueprints and, in time, will also decay. If left in the sun it will become faded, brittle, and will tear easily. The mediums are already transforming. The details are beginning to erode. Soon it will be a mass of carbon and polymers, destined for landfill like most of our civilization. Cycle after cycle, all things decay. A blue one-sided info sheet is included, it reads: POST CONTEMPORARY presents... DECAY Eternal Opuscule #100 Catalog Number: FPCON19 Release date: September 1996 Well, here it is. DECAY, the world's first flexi-disc to contain an Eternal Opuscule! You remember Eternal Opuscules, those lock loop tracks Incarnate (a.k.a. Legion Of Green Men, Alkahest, Zeuxis) put on all their records. They've done a whole whack of them now. To celebrate the 100th loop they decided to make something anti-infinite, a product that is designed to disintegrate. It's a heavy concept, man. Everybody knows that flexi discs are delicate and flimsy records, so sticking an Eternal Opuscule on one pretty much ensures it's gonna wear out. Just think, if you play a 45 RPM loop for a minute, that's 45 plays! I can't wait to see one worn right trough! To cap it off, the cover is an exercise in function reversal: package a fragile object in something even more fragile. The blueprint sleeve gets ruined easily by sun and water, so does it protect the flexi, or does the flexxi support it?
