Band,
Electronic and Jazz
Instant Coffee! is a trio of Lisle Ellis, a well-known jazz bassist who have played with the likes of Cecil Taylor, Fred Frith and John Zorn, M. C. Schmidt of Matmos and Jason Willett – a Baltimore veteran of avant and "out"-music both on the fringes of rock and noise, member and collaborator of numerous bands and projects, including Half Japanese. The trio was formed in 2009 around live improvisational sessions, which later formed the band's first album, released in a limited edition on LP by Alga Marghen's Planam sub-division in 2010. The recording saw Ellis exploring the electroacoustic combination of traditional jazz techniques with real-time computer processing, Martin Schmidt playing the usual variety of spooky percussive instruments, non-musical objects and synthesizers, and Jason Willett jamming on rubber band with a contact microphone, Sidrassi Organ and other custom-made electronic instruments.
