R&B/Soul
J. Marie, the self-proclaimed “Rare Melody,” unleashes an innovative and unique approach to music. With her band, The Color Different, she takes you on a musical journey with her eclectic fusion of r&b, soul and alternative sounds while drawing inspiration from the likes of Prince, Mint Condition and Brandy. Growing up in a successful musical family who toured internationally, J. Marie was exposed to and groomed for the stage at an early age. She began writing songs and performing at the tender age of seven and went on to win numerous vocal competitions, hold a leading role in the Tulsa Youth Opera’s rendition of “Brundibar” and star in the touring musical “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” This singer, songwriter, and musician hailing from Van Nuys, California by way of Tulsa, Oklahoma has shared the stage with such artists as Charlie Wilson, Bobby Brown and Avant and has worked with some of the industry’s most notable producers including the Platinum Brothers (J. Holiday, Jennifer Lopez) and The Ambassadorz (Usher, Rihanna). After the successful release of her debut album in 2010, The Introduction, J. Marie took an unexpected hiatus from her artistry as she worked behind the scenes as an A&R and artist manager for well known acts such as Linda Perry, Chet Faker, Rainy Milo and V. Bozeman. Knowing she had more to offer the music industry, J. Marie quit her FT job behind the scenes, grabbed her mic and charged full steam ahead to pursue her artistic passion. Her latest project, I Want It All, produced in partnership with Diggy Down Recordz out of France is J. Marie's tribute to the 80's and 90's music she grew up on with the first song "Boy Toy" bringing back memories of Vanity's "Nasty Girl." The sky is only the limit for this undeniable talent who creates with her soul and speaks through her art.
