Jack Larson

Pop and Rock
A.k.a. Jack W. Larson

Contrary to popular belief, other than his name this Jack Larson has absolutely no ties to the actor who portrayed the Jimmy Olsen character in THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN on TV in the 1950's. That Jack Larson was born on February 8, 1928 in California (as Jack Edward Larson). THIS Jack Larson was born in Iowa on April 16, 1939. He spent a good part of his growing up years in Oregon. Following his service in the US Army, this Jack Larson was signed to a 6 year contract with FRATERNITY Records in 1959. Almost at the same time, he'd made an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show on an episode featuring acts in the military, one of them also being Steve Lawrence. Not only could Jack sing, but he was also quite handy as an impressionist, a talent he'd incorporated into his act on the Sullivan Show. He would show his talent as an actor in an early movie, THE YOUNG SWINGERS. He'd also be featured in another movie, TEENAGE MILLIONAIRE (starring Jimmy Clanton), but that was pretty much restricted to a single video performance of his song, "Back To School Blues". In 1963, he'd make a TV appearance as an actor on THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW, playing the key role of Kenny Dexter in the episode entitled BIG MAX CALVADA. Other minor role movie appearances followed (BEACHES; NOTHING IN COMMON) where some places would insist it was the OTHER Jack Larson playing the parts. He eventually changed his professional name and registered with the Screen Actors Guild as Larrs Jackson, a name which he continues to use as an actor and voice actor. One of his most memorable recent TV appearances was in a G.E.I.CO. commercial, that playing Old MacDonald in a spelling bee ("COW ...C-O-W--E-I-E-I-O").
