For the photographer please see Jack Mitchell (3) Scottish folksinger and author of Scottish-Irish heritage, born in 1932 in Glasgow. A socialist by conviction, he moved to the GDR in 1956 and lived there for many years, teaching at the Humbold University Berlin. Founder of the folk band Jack & Genossen which gained some popularity in the 1970s and proved influential for the GDR folk scene. His last years he spent in Galway, Ireland, where he died on April 22, 1997.
