Rock and Hip-Hop/Rap
Jackass Penguins is largely a solo effort, but has not always been so. Jackass Penguins were formed in 1993 under the moniker "Diskovepher" by Michael Watson under the pseudonym Derrick Hoyle, along with George Amezcua. Songs were primarily rapped by Michael Watson with George providing beatbox. George soon left the group, but not before selling his acoustic guitar to Michael in June 1994. The group was renamed Jackass Penguins with Michael on vocals and guitar, and Antonio Torres was added on drums. In one session Antonio's cousin Erik took over on drums. Another member, Alayne Wilson, joined in 1995 providing vocals and keyboards. By then, Antonio already got bored with the group and left. After 1996, there was only Michael left in the group, with only cameos by other people once in a while. Michael uses multiple overdubs to record guitar, vocals and drums to the songs.
