Single US 1966 on United Artists Records label
Pop and Soundtrack (Vocal)
Not For Sale Promotion Copy. "The Fortune Cookie" was a promotional spin-off of the Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau movie by the same name, although it was not part of the soundtrack. It would have made a suitable bonus track for the reissue of the soundtrack album, but the reissue label undoubtedly didn't know this track even existed. This was Jackie and Gayle's last single release and, while "Fortune Cookie" has an interesting arrangement, the release is the duo's weakest single. The songs, pushed on them by United Artists, did nothing to leverage the best qualities of their sound. The B-side -- "All the Good Times Are Gone" -- was completely wrong for them. The single was a limp finale to their recording career.
