LINER NOTES: "BAIÃO: It was a mestizo african origin dance, with navel dance and everything imaginated, very popular in Northern states starting from Bahia up to the very North of Brazilian territory. It was also called BAIANO. When dances were over, there were poetic challenges among participants and in those challenges, the improvisation that guitar players made in between sung verses were known as "baião" or "rojão". Once, LUIZ GONZAGA went to visit HUMBERTO TEIXEIRA over his office, in Rio de Janeiro, looking for a better expression to denominate music from Northeast. After a long chat they decided to use the word "baião" - giving birth to a musical kind that overspread for the whole country and also beyond borders. Everything started with the BAIÃO: "Eu vou mostrar pra vocês como se dança o baião".
