Band,
Rock
Portuguese alternative rock and indie pop band. Co-founded in 1996 by João Osório (guitar), João Valente (vocals) - both from Castelo Branco -, Nuno Encarnação, Eduardo Vinhas (guitar, keyboards) and Rodrigo Alfacinha (drums) - the last three from Lisbon. Their first album, “Student Power", was released by Bee Keeper in 1998. Then Filipa Leão (vocals) joined the band and João Valente and Nuno Encarnação left. This meant the need for two new members: Renato Jacobetty (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Ricardo Mota (bass) - another duo from Castelo Branco. In 1999, Jaguar have signed a contract with Sony Music for the second album. Took a year to be recorded, but the major label didn´t release it. Including some work of the Sony period, “Pop Yen” was finally issued through União Lisboa in 2002 - two editions; the first one sold out quickly. Nuno Pessoa (drums) joins the group in 2003, playing more than 50 gigs in that year. Between 2003 and 2005, Jaguar have recorded “Then Nothing Turned To Gold” and ended their activities. Later, in 2010, the album has a digital release (Skud & Smarty). A physical edition follows in 2013: “Lush” (EP).
