Album US 2007 on Modern Knot label
Hip-Hop/Rap
Escape Velocity is the debut album from Jah Connery. The album spins almost autobiographical yarns about death, addiction, love, loss and stability. Its anchor is an allegorical use of concepts taken from both quantum and astronomical physics. Connery is the only featured artist on the record, save for soulful production from fellow Innermitten Music producer Das MG on Self Made, which gives the distinct impression of isolation. The record takes a deeply personal turn with tracks E, U., Noone There and Beau Knows; a series of songs that describe in raw detail the deterioration of a relationship that appears distinctly real. Luckily for the optimistic listener, it finishes with Need to Know Basis, which tells three stories of departure, before ending on the thematic sentiment, "the things you love will come and go, you might not get to say goodbye".
