James Best (born July 26, 1926, Powderly, Kentucky, USA – died April 6, 2015, Hickory, North Carolina, USA) was an American television, film, character, voice and stage actor, as well as a writer, director, acting coach, artist, college professor and musician. He notably played the role of "Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane" in the television action comedy series The Dukes Of Hazzard (1979-1985).
