James Duncan is the son of Ian Anderson. He as been playing drums since the age of 13 and chose to perform with his middle name to be recognised for his own merits rather than his father's. His first band, “Chequered Rain” failed to achieve any real chart success and he moved into the world of sessions. Being based in London, he regularly recorded and performed live with many bands and artists, working in Jazz, Pop and rock genres. In 2002 he worked with Ian Anderson on his “Rubbing Elbows” US tours and has remained on the stool for various projects and tours since. James formed The Fancy Toys with guitarist Mickaël Téo and recorded and toured Iceland and the UK before disbanding when Mickaël emigrated to Brazil. He toured with Ian Anderson in 2013 on his "Thick As A Brick" tour in Germany to replace Scott Hammond who was out of action following knee surgery. James has homes in London and Iceland, where he works mainly as Ian Anderson’s agent and co-manager. He also represents a few other artists through his company, Hole Agency.
