Music for Fragments / Music & Birds (Faitiche 08) Release date: 12 October 2012 Side A / Music for Fragments: Music for Fragments developed from a collaboration with Canadian choreographer Sylvain Émard. Two excerpts of music composed for the dance piece Fragments – Volume 1 (2010) are presented in revised form on the A side. Side B / Music & Birds: Music & Birds is a commissioned work for the CosmoCaixa science museum in Barcelona, Spain. Using various recordings of birdsongs and two oscillators, Jelinek produced a number of rhythmical sketches. The tracks gathered here were recorded during the preparations for a live performance in 2011. PrimeTime (Faitiche 09) Release Date: 23 November 2012 Plays in 45 RPM Side A: PrimeTime is a commissioned work for Cinesonic – a series of concerts presented by the Stichting Film en Media Festival Amsterdam in which video art, silent and experimental films are shown together with newly-conceived live soundtracks by contemporary musicians. PrimeTime is a collage of news broadcasts (from August 15th, 2012) and various film music. The piece emerged from the preparations for a performance of Prime Time Paradise by video artists Broersen & Lukács. Side B: HipBird, SynthSil and LoneStar are new edits/alternate versions of previously released tracks. HipBird: an alternate version was released in 2009 as a contribution to Moriyama Zoo (Powershovelbooks, Japan) – a CD/LP and catalog of the works of Japanese photographer Moriyama Daido. SynthSil (Unfallmusik): a short excerpt of this piece appeared in 2010 as a limited edition 7” flexi-disc on Hanno Leichtmann’s Picture/Disc Edition. LoneStar: originated from a collaboration with video artist Karl Kliem and was a contribution to the Japanese DVD-Magazine Sound X Vision 2004. An extended and revised version is included here. Do you know Otahiti? (Faitiche 10) Release date: 19 April 2013 Side A: Both titles are live recordings of Japanese vibraphone player Masayoshi Fujita together with Jan Jelinek. Since the release of their collaborative album Bird, Lake, Objects (faitiche03, 2010), the duo have played numerous improvised concerts. Live at Frameworks was recorded in Munich on March 24th, 2012 at the Frameworks Festival, while Live at AvantJazz was recorded during the AvantJazz at CaixaForum concert series in Barcelona on August 22nd, 2012. Side B: Do you know Otahiti? is a twofold collage; it combines unreleased material with fragments taken from Kennen Sie Otahiti?, a radio collage produced for SWR Radio in 2012 on the theme of fictional and real travelogues. TOton is a previously unreleased track from 2009. Temple (Faitiche 11) Release date: 25 October 2013 Side A: As was the case with two tracks that appeared on the 2012 mini-LP Music for Fragments (faitiche 08), Temple stems from a collaboration with French-Canadian choreographer Sylvain Émard. Temple is a re-worked excerpt of the music for the dance piece Fragments – Volume I. Side B: The Gesellschaft zur Emanzipation des Samples (G.E.S.) welcomes a new member. Helmut Schmidt samples his way through the middle-class canon of values and assembles collages of Messian and Debussy (or is that Bach and Milhaud?), which are once again played back in public spaces and recorded anew. A backdrop of gambling unites the recordings: the playback locations chosen by Helmut Schmidt are Geneva, Baden-Baden and Bad Homburg. A triumvirate of bourgeois casino tradition.
