Czech composer, theatre dramaturge, collector of traditional folk songs. Born 25 December 1908 in Nymburk, Bohemia, died 6 June 1998 in Prague. Chief of the Prague National Theatre opera 1958–1964, National Theatre staff member 1967–1975.
