Singer of Jazz and Pop
American vaudeville singer and light comedian whose screen debut was not until 1949. He was a character actor who often played tough Western sheriffs, police officers or weary criminals in many films of the 1940s and 1950s. His films include "Thunder Bay" (1953), "The Wild One" (1954), "Cat Ballou" (1965) and "Hellfighters" (1968). He also took part in the 1950 Capitol recording of "Oklahoma". March 6, 1899 – February 3, 1971
