Born 11 July 1723, Bort-Les-Orgues, France, died 31 December 1799, Normandy, France. French historian, writer, poet and librettist. He published librettos for music by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Antoine Dauvergne, André-Modeste Grétry, Noccolò Paganini and Luigi Cherubini. Elected to the Académie Française in 1763.
