A CD of songs and readings to accompany the documentary, Black Snow, about the explosions which occurred at the Oaks Colliery, Hoyle Mill, Barnsley in South Yorkshire on December 12th 1866 resulting in the death of possibly as many as 383 miners and rescuers - the worst ever mining disaster in the UK. Steven Linstead wrote and directed the film and co-produced it with cinematographer Andy Lawrence. The film tells three interlocking stories: the story of a historical community devastated by the disaster, struggling to survive; the story of a contemporary community , decimated by the loss of industry, rediscovering itself in the struggle to remember; and the story of a sculptor, Graham Ibbeson, striving to make one last masterpiece. The film was made with the support of the UK Heritage Lottery Fund, the National Union of Mineworkers, and People and Mining.
