Band, NO
Singer / Musician of Alternative
Jef was formed in the summer of 2000 in Bergen, Norway. The members that make up the band are: Kjell E. Moberg on lead vocals / guitar. Katy Penny on vocals / bass and Jan Terje Pedersen on vocals / drums. Jef consisted of members from Punishment Park (Kjell and Pez) and Twigs (Katy). The band plays punk rock and noisy indie influenced rock. The idea for the band’s name came from No Means No’s soundman when Punishment Park played their final concert and supported No Means No at Garage, Bergen in Bergen. In April 2006 the band toured China, where rock was officially illegal at the time. The band was not aware of it at the time, but they helped to tear down a number of barriers fronting rock music and concerts in China with this tour. Jef released 3 CD eps in China on the October Party Records in Beijing (run by Kang Mao, a member of Beijing based band Subs (2)), which is a continuation of Kjell Moberg’s Norwegian October Party Records label. Jef is one of the first western bands to legally release rock / punk in China. The band took a break towards the end of 2006 and, as of 2018, is still in pause mode.
