Photographer and bass player. His early music career was in Columbia, Missouri before attending the Kansas City Art Institute. He was a founding member of Kansas City group Tirez Tirez from 1977 to 1981, moving with the band to New York City. He contributed photography for the band for a number of years afterwards. He was a member of John Train (2) for a year, before moving to Indiana in 1982 for grad school. He later moved to Chicago and ran sound at a number of local clubs. With some friends Burk started the recording studio Soundworks, Chicago and functioned as an engineer. In 1997, he started the record label No Cigar Records and produced early released for several Chicago bands, with the first issue being a curated 21-song tribute to the band The Who. The label folded in 2006 and he later moved back to Kansas City.
