Compil. US 1993 on Rounder Records label
Jazz and Blues (Piano Blues)
Recorded between May 23 and June 7, 1938 in Coolidge Auditorium, Library Of Congress, Washington DC. Released by permission of the Estate of Jelly Roll Morton and with the cooperation of the Library of Congress. Jelly Roll Morton, the first great jazz artist, made these Library of Congress recordings in 1938, at the behest of Alan Lomax of the Archive of Folk Song. In them, Morton performs not only his own music, singing and playing the piano, but recreates the styles and repertoires - folk tunes, blues, marches, ragtime, opera he heard during his Storyville days and later wide travels and colorful life. Collected here are the musical performances from this series, for the first time complete, uncensored, and pitch-corrected to compensate for problems with the original recording equipment. cat# on CD noted as RCD 1091
