Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, his father was a Southern Baptist minister and his mother was an outstanding singer in her own right, Pookie was wowing crowds as early as the age of five, when he bought his uncle’s Prince of Peace Church to their feet with his rendition of Why Do Men Treat The Lord Like They Do. At 17 he forged his fathers signature on a release form to sing background with Dennis Edwards of Temptations fame. A stand out performer, Pookie soon caught the attention of R&B superstar Keith Sweat where he formed the group Ol Skool, a multiplatinum selling group on Universal Records.
