Jerry Wald (actually Jervis Forest * 15. January 1918 [1] in Newark , New Jersey , † September [2] in 1973 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American clarinetist and bandleader . Wald led his own big bands from the 1940s to the 1950s , with which some of the 78s were made for Majestic ; He appeared in New York and Chicago with his orchestras in the early 1940s, and in Hollywood in the late 1940s, returning to New York in 1952. His admiration for Artie Shaw not only brought similarities in style and sound, but also to the hiring of many former musicians from Shaw's orchestra, including Bernie Privin , Les Robinson , Sid Weiss , singer Anita Boyer , arrangers Ray Conniff , Bill Challis and Jerry Gray . In addition, worked at various times, including Nelson Riddle , Ray Sims , Les Elgart , Bob Dukoff , Al Cohn , Bill Perkins , Lee Konitz ,Al Haig , Billy Bauer , Art Ryerson , Irving Cottler , Manny Albam in Walds Orchestra. The first record recording appeared in 1942 at Decca Records ; others followed. In 1946, Columbia Pictures produced a music short with Walds Orchestra. In 1952 he recorded with Chris Connor . At the beginning of his career, pianist Bill Evans worked on two albums by Wald, Top Pops - Jerry Wald & His Orchestra (MGM / Lion, 1953) and Listen to the Music of Jerry Wald (Kapp, 1955), dance and entertainment music with popular titles like " I Love Paris " or " Mad About the Boy ".
