Spoken Word (Dialogue, Education, Interview, Spoken Word, Technical)
Long Playing Microgroove Promotional pitch for Century Records franchise associate program. Gabe Barthold, was the national director of custom recordings for Century Records; he was also the company's first recording engineer to work for the company. Mr. Barthold sits in with Mr. James B. Keysor (Sr.) who was the founder and president of Century Records; a custom record manufacturing business out of Saugus, California. During the interview Mr. Keysor gives a detailed history behind his company, as well as a breakdown of his personal background as a sound engineer and other qualifications. Topics range from money investment, profits, training, support, direct sales. Century manufacturing company was solely focused on making/pressing records for individuals, and not record producing as the majority of record companies such RCA, Columbia, Capital, and so on. Limited pressings, and one-offs was their main business. Century Records was a family run business. Mr. Keysor had 5 children; 3 boys (James/Jim Keysor Jr., Richard "Dick" Keysor, and Robert Keysor, Carolyne Keysor, and Katherine Keysor) Apart from the Record Pressing Plant, they also had a plastic manufacturing company (Keysor-Century Corp.) which served RCA records by providing them with raw plastic/vinyl material for their record pressing plant. The 3 boys went on to take on very important company rolls as production manager, sales manager, and finances manager. They help to build much of the company's record processing and pressing equipment. The oldest son (James Jr.) went on to lead the family business after Sr. retired, and will eventually find a passion for politics; he resigned from his family business and became an assemblyman for the state of California. This recording was accompanied with a questionnaire form aimed at potential franchise associates. On the back cover of this recording there's a detailed breakdown list of a package-kit that successful candidates would get once accepted into their program. Another earlier promotional recording by Mr.Keysor was this 7" A Project For Your Art Department
