Album US 2006 on Civil Defense League label
Spoken Word, Folk, World and (Spoken Word, Poetry)
How Will We Know When We're Dead is a retrospective album of 25 years of the poetry of Bobby Byrd given new life by the music of Jim Ward (leader of the rock band SPARTA). Byrd reads his poems the way only Byrd can, and Ward provides the perfectly-suited sonic landscape. The idea had been to get together and make an album in the style of the Beat Generation, but revisited and revamped for modern times. Byrd would read his poetry at his natural cadence and Ward would write music behind it for color.
