Singer of Rock and Blues
Jo Kelsey is a singer/songwriter currently based in Auckland, NZ. Growing up in Birmingham, UK, she developed a passion for music at a young age and began training as a classical singer and pianist. By the age of 18, she had moved to London to pursue her career, immersing herself in the music scene and performing at every opportunity. After working as a session musician and forming various projects, she began working with Dutch guitarist Niels Bakx. Together, they walked down the path The Beatles once followed in Germany, playing regular residencies across London, honing their performance and writing skills. Behind the scenes, they started writing new material, the result: a mixture of blues, rock and folk whilst also incorporating a more modern sound. In Spring 2014, they went into the studio to record their first 5-track EP ‘Lie To Me’ with producer Jay Stapley (Roger Waters, Mike Oldfield), later mastered by Pink Floyd’s twice Grammy nominated engineer, Andy Jackson. After another solid year of writing and gigging throughout the UK and Europe, the duo returned to the studio in June 2015 to record their second full-band offering 'Growing Up: Live At The Park Studios'. The EP was recorded and filmed live with the help of their 5-piece band and recording genius, Tobin Jones. After deciding to pursue her own path and spending a year travelling the world broadening her musical horizons, Jo has now settled in Auckland, where she continues to work on her own music whilst leading the New Zealand Girls Choir and working on a new record with NZ rock band ‘RadioComa’. “Gathering inspiration from the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Janis Joplin and Etta James, Jo’s powerful vocals and philosophical lyrics are bound to mesmerise, while her relentless drive to make music and share her message with whoever is willing to listen is sure to impress.”
