German Reformed church hymn-writer. Known for writing “Praise to The Lord, The Almighty, The King of Creation” (“Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König der Ehren”). He was born 1650 in Bremen, Germany and died 31 May 1680 in Bremen, Germany. Neanderthal (Thal-today: Tal = valley) in Mettmann, Germany, was named after him and got famous in 1856 when the Homo neanderthalensis (Neanderthal Man) was found there.
