One of Two Poor Boys, the other being Arthur McClain, who recorded for Gennett in Birmingham, Ala., in 1927 and for ARC in New York 1931. "No data is available as to which of Joe Evans or Arthur McClain plays which of the instruments for which both are noted as a possibility [...] It appears from their Gennett sessions that they can both play guitar, and it might be deduced that Joe Evans is probably the pianist. There is however no reason to suppose that any one instrument (e.g. mandolin) is not played by both Evans and McClain during the course of those sessions where doubts are expressed."
