Joep Peeters

voc, as, p, *1949 NL
Musician of Jazz

Joep Peeters, Breda, Holland, born in 1949, plays piano, altosax and vibes and he sings as well. He is a performing artist in Jazz music since 1965. He can be heard as a soloist, but also puts together bands of different sizes. He was the leader of the famous six-piece JoJo Swingband from 1982 until 2000. Joep Peeters is an ex-president of the Roaring Twenties Jazz Club in Breda, co- founder in 1971 and first chairman of the Breda Jazz Festival and until 1996 involved in the programming of that world famous Festival. As a musician he specializes in the older jazz styles from the nineteen twenties and the the nineteen thirties: Classic Jazz and Swing, but he is also quite familiar with the New Orleans Revival and with the Jump & Jive, Rhythm & Blues from the forties and fifties. Joep Peeters is an avid collector of jazz records, videos, books and photos. His collection serves as a source of information for his work as writer of articles and sleeve notes. He also produced releases for the Breda jazzlabel Feel The Jazz. Joep regularly works as a master of ceremonies and announcer for many Festivals and Jazz concerts in Holland. Since 1985 he organizes shows and special concerts dedicated to musical themes, tributes to composers or famous musicians, or the music of a certain year of period from the past. His musical inspiration comes from Johnny Hodges and Captain Handy for his saxophone playing, when he plays the vibes it’s the percussive style of Lionel Hampton, and when he’s at the piano you can hear glimpses of Jelly Roll Morton, Teddy Wilson, Fats Waller and Albert Ammons. Joep Peeters also teaches French. During his musical career, Joep Peeters worked with: Doc Cheatham, Benny Waters, Scott Hamilton, Tom Baker, Slim Gaillard, Bob French, Jim Goodwin, Marty Grosz, Dan Barrett, Brooks Tegler, Howard Alden, Bent Persson, Big Al Carson, Patrick Artero, Tomas Örnberg, Bob Barnard, Danny Moss, Peter Ecklund, Pud Brown, Nelson Williams, Barbara Lashley, Daniël Huck, Wallace Davenport, Fapy Lafertin, Beryl Bryden, Frog Joseph, Manny Klein, Olivier Franc and many others.
