Johann Philipp Förtsch (14 May 1652 - 14 December 1732) was a German baroque composer, statesman and doctor born in Wertheim. His musical output is closely tied to the development of the Hamburg opera. He was among its founders and at times he made essential contributions to the musical life of the Hansa city. In addition to his activities as a composer, singer and librettist. Among his surviving compositions are several works for the stage and instrumental music, but above all, 80 sacred cantatas.
