CATALOG NUMBER VARIATIONS - on sleeve: ML 4345 - on labels: ML 54345 Early Columbia Masterworks release: similar to Prades Festival - Vol. 1, with different labels and catalog number variation. These two early releases were followed by represses with 6-eye Columbia labels. The Prades Festival was held over several weeks in June of 1950 in the "picturesque" town of Prades in the south of France. This festival commemorated the 200th anniversary of Bach's passing. It "also marked the emergence from a long and self-imposed exile of an artist who is acknowledged to be the greatest of all 'cellists and who is without question one of the towering exponents of Bach-the seventy-three-year-old Spanish musician, Pablo Casals who was appearing as soloist, conductor, and director of the festival." There are 10 Volumes featuring music from this festival, with this being the first.
