A.k.a. John Joseph Burke
Canadian composer and educator, born May 10, 1951 in Toronto. On the music faculty of McMaster University (1983-1985) and the University of Victoria (since 1990). Winner of the CBC National Radio Competition for Young Composers for "Six Regions," "Spectre," "Firewind," and "Diffusa est gratia". 1995 winner of the Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music for his String Quartet. Discography includes "Firewind" (Mather-LePage Piano Duo), "...ascends at full moon" (guitarist Michael Laucke), and "À la source d'Hypocrène," by the ensemble of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec.
