Alder began his drumming career in local Colchester blues-mod R&B band "Dane Stephens And The Deep Beats" (Dane Stephens aka Doug Orde), which evolved into The Fairies: Alder (drums); John Acutt (guitar); Mick Weaver (rhythm guitar & fiddle); John Fred Gandy (bass).
