John “Fink” Cable began playing in Lubbock, Texas in 1969 behind the Texas Tech University Student Union Building. They played casual concerts every Tuesday. He met and later joined the Texas band, Colours. They played all over the country for three and a half years. He later joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the late 70s. His time with the Dirt Band was highlighted by the first tour by an American band in the Soviet Union in 1976. Cable left the Dirt Band to join his friends from Michael Martin Murphey's band. He teamed up with one of the most talented songwriters. Richard Dean.
