Artist Portrait

John Clees

dr,
Musician of Dance, Electronic and Blues

When he was seven years old he would secretly listen to "The Electrifying Mojo" on 97.9 FM in the early 80’s after being tucked away for bed. Rolling his head back and forth, waiving his hand in the air pretending to play the drums, he learned many different styles, frequencies, and artistic forms of electronic music. His mother passionately played the piano, while his father avidly played the acoustic guitar. The balance of funk, soul, passion, creativity, and desire was captured from an early age. He's held monthly residencies at "The Shelter" aka "St. Andrew's Hall", weekly residencies at the “The Velvet Lounge” & "Tonic" w/Terrence Parker, as well as Sunday nights at "The Sky Club" w/ Thomas Barnett. In 2011 John eventually turned his annual [D.R.M.M] - (Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries) donation drive for the homeless, into his very own Sunday monthly @ TV Bar in 2011. In 2001 Redsoul Records.com was born and John’s imprint began its evolutionary cycle. His first vinyl release in 2001 was pressed at the legendary Archer Record Pressing plant in Detroit. In 2004 he remixed one of the most legendary minimal techno tracks of it's time. The Shit (John Clees Mix) : MATRIX8 was released on Sean's own Matrix imprint. Sean Deason ‎– The Shit : 2003 Remixes (Volume Two)" went on to be release of the year. In 2005 John later released music for the he Cranbrook Art Museum for their their "African Diaspora" Cd project, and in 2007 John recorded with world renowned artist Seth Troxler. Their “Breakfast With Thorialanus Remix” - ( Seth Troxler Feat. John Clees 7AM At The Coney Mix) - UNFOUND SOUND [28] also went on to be a gigantic success for the Unfoundsound Label. As as the years continued, John went on to tour in Moscow with one of his hottest live performances to date. John is constantly perfecting his sound and has gone back into seclusion putting his productions first once more. Releasing "Lost Tracks" on his label that have been buried for years, but also on an entirely new path and journey, he will finally be sharing new material once again will the world very soon. A new live pa is on the horizon for Detroit very soon. Stay tuned in 2017 as we move into another year of exploration. -- The Box of Detreux
