A.k.a. John Collins
John Collins came to Ghana in 1952 and has been involved in the West African music scene since 1969. He has worked, recorded and played with numerous Ghanaian and Nigerian bands as Francis Kenya, E.T. Mensah, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Kwaa Mensah, Victor Uwaifo, Bob Pinodo, the Bunzus, etc. In the 1970's he ran his own Bokoor Highlife guitar band which released twenty songs and since 1982 has been running Bokoor Recording Studio based in Pfankor, Accra. Collins obtained his first degree Sociology and Archaeology from the University of Ghana (1969-'72) and his Doctorate in Ethnomusicology at the State University of New York at Buffalo (1989-'94). From 2000 he is connected as Professor at University of Ghana. John Collins has written many articles about music from Ghana, archived recordings, made compilations and dedicated his life to keep this music and this period in Ghanaian history alive.
