John Crook

A.k.a. John Anthony Crook

Appears as liner notes author, and translator. Professor John Crook (1921-2007) was an expert in Roman law and legal practices, taught Greek and Latin to classics scholars, and was a published author. Born in London November 5th 1921. Awarded scholarship to St. John's College, Cambridge 1939. Served in the 9th Royal Fusiliers from 1941, and was a POW from 1943-45. Following the war, completed his studies, and began lecturing at Reading University (1948-51). Returning to Cambridge, he was a fellow of St. John's from 1951-2007, and was successively tutor, praelector, and president of the college. He lectured in classics, finally rising to Professor of Ancient History 1979-84 (Emeritus). Following retirement, he continued writing reviews and articles, and was a published author. John Crook died in Cambridge on September 7th 2007, aged 85.
