American rhythm & blues / rockabilly musician, producer, concert promoter, record shop and label owner, and songwriter. Dolphin was born in Beatrice, Alabama in 1902, but his family soon moved to Boley, Oklahoma, where he was raised. He later moved to Detroit, Michigan and finally settled in Los Angeles, California. In 1948 he open his World Famous Dolphin's of Hollywood Record Shop in Los Angeles on the legendary Central Avenue. He also founded the Los Angeles rhythm and blues labels Recorded In Hollywood, Money Records (2), Lucky Records (14), and Cash Records (4). Dolphin was shot and killed in Los Angeles on February 1, 1958 by Percy Ivy, in a dispute over unpaid royalties.
