Musician / Composer of Jazz and Classical
Classical and jazz double-bass player and composer, currently based in Hamburg, Germany. From silence to sound system, from the lowest end of the spectrum into the ether, from stone age to tomorrow: John Eckhardt dedicates his life to bass. As a double bassist, he shared the stage with Elliott Sharp, Evan Parker and Peter Evans as well as with Pierre Boulez, Helmut Lachenmann and many ensembles of today's chamber music, such as Musikfabrik, Ensemble Modern and Klangforum Wien. In recent years, he increasingly performs as bass guitarist as well. His solo releases "Xylobiont" (PSI Rec.), "Forests" (Depth of Field Music - on a wooden USB flash drive in a transparent box with moss, lichens and other forest materials) and his recordings of contemporary music such as Xenakis' "Theraps" (Mode Rec.) received worldwide recognition.
