John Haggerty is a punk rock guitarist from Chicago, IL who is credited as one of the architects of the "Chicago Sound" (in reference to punk rock from Chicago). He joined Naked Raygun in later 1983 after the release of their first EP, "Basement Screams" (on which he made a guest appearance playing saxophone). He initially played alongside founding guitarist Santiago Durango although this was short-lived as Durango soon dropped out and focused on Big Black. Haggerty remained with Naked Raygun until late 1989 when, frustrated over the band's lack of commitment to extensive touring and the role NR vocalist Jeff Pezzati's wife played in managing the band, he quit and formed Pegboy. He has since declined any invitation in making a reunion appearance with Naked Raygun, although Pegboy has, upon occasion, performed some Naked Raygun songs live. John is the older brother of Pegboy drummer Joe Haggerty. The brothers have also recently performed in the band the Nefarious Fat Cats which also includes Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers.
