Born in Malaysia in 1949, he was raised in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Australia before settling in New Zealand in the 60s. His breakthrough hit was 1973's "Damn the Dam" which reached #5 in the NZ charts and won Single of the Year at the music awards.
