John Shepherd (Real name: Jan Schaap) is born on 28st of september 1929 in IJmuiden in the Netherlands. Member of a musical fisherman’s family. Guitarist, singer, song writer, composer, allrounder in music. Member of the musical trio The Shepherds, together with his brother Nico and his sister Helen. At a very young age, John is performing vocals in the VARA-program “De vrolijke klas”. Just after the war in 1945, at the age of 16, his father gave him a guitar and since than Jan and his guitar were inseparable. Later on Jan will study classic vocals and in 1960 he starts start to make professional music at the swinging “Ted Powder Kwinted”, starring Theo Kruijt as Ted Powder. In 1963 John and his brother Nico and sister Helen started to make music as The Shepherds. John re-arranged a lot of old and famous religious and folk songs, which The Shepherd became famous for. Beside John recorded many albums/singles with The Shepherds, he also recorded a solo album (John Shepherd), recorded an album with his brother Nico and mother (Moe Shepherd met John & Nico) and formed a musical duo with his sister Helen (Duo Jan en Lenie) which also resulted in many sold records. At this moment (2015) John is living in an elderly home in Haarlem. Jan Schaap died on the 18th of november 2016 at the age of 87 in Haarlem. His song has ended, his music and memories will life forever...
