A.k.a. John Dukes Schroeder
John Schroeder, aka John Stabb, (b.July 12, 1961 – d.May 7, 2016) was best-known as the lead vocalist and only constant member of the Washington, DC-area punk band Government Issue, who existed from 1980 to 1989. His nickname is said to originate from a phone message left by Ian MacKaye prior to Government Issue's formation. Schroeder was involved in a band called The Stab prior to Government Issue and during a phone call with MacKaye, Ian wrote down Schroeder's information on a piece of paper and identified Schroeder as "John/Stabb" and the name stuck. After a 112-day battle with stomach cancer he died at a hospice in Rockville, Maryland on May 7, 2016 at the age of 54.
