Musician, actor, and comedian from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who also lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Standley wrote (with Art Thorsen) and recorded "It's In The Book", a number one single on the Billboard Charts in 1952. The comedic recording sold over two million copies and received a gold record. During World War II, Standley served in the US Army and entertained the troops with Red Skelton and Dave Brubeck for the USO. Standley frequently worked with Horace Heidt, touring with the bandleader and occasionally appearing on his television program. Standley died at the age of 79 in 1992 in Los Angeles, California.
