Composer of Rock
Jonah Sirota is an American violist and composer, member of Chiara String Quartet, and a research associate professor/artist-in-residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music. Hailing from a musical family, Jonah is a son of composer Robert Sirota and a brother of violist Nadia Sirota. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors of Music degree from Rice University, and received his M.M. degree from the Juilliard School. Some of Sirota's viola teachers include Martha Strongin Katz, Roberto Diaz (2), and Samuel Rhodes. Sirota has commissioned and premiered new works by Gabriela Lena Frank, Arthur Joseph McCaffrey, Damon Thomas Lee, Alexis Bacon, and Rodney Lister. Currently, the artist is working on a few projects, such as STRONG SAD, an upcoming album and program of new elegies for the viola by Nico Muhly, Paola Prestini, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Arthur Joseph McCaffrey, Robert Sirota, and Jonah himself; and Mondegreen, an improvisation duo with organist/composer Kurt Knecht.
