Jonas Jonasson

Spoken Word

Jonas Jonasson, born 1961 in Växjö, Sweden, worked as a journalist for Smålandsposten and Expressen after studying in Gothenburg. Later he founded his own media-consulting company. After 20 years in the media world, he sold everything and moved to the Swiss canton of Ticino. His first novel "The centenarian who climbed out of the window and disappeared" kicked off in Sweden a veritable Allan-Karlsson mania, has become an absolute top-bestseller and was filmed. Jonasson's first novel was published in 2009 under the original title "Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann". In 2010, it was the most sold book in Sweden. It has since been translated into 45 languages. In Germany, the book appeared in August 2011 under the title "The centenarian who rose from the window and disappeared," reached in September 2011, the top 10 and early 2012, the top of the Spiegel bestseller list. Eleven months after the sales launch more than one million copies had already been sold in Germany. In December 2013, the filming of the novel by director Felix Herngren started in Swedish cinemas. The theatrical release in Germany was on March 20, 2014. In 2016, the sequel "The one hundred-year-old, who did not pay the bill and disappeared" was created, in which Jonasson was involved as a screenwriter. In September 2013 Jonasson's second novel was released under the original title "Analfabeten som kunde räkna" in Sweden. It is about a young African woman who is illiterate but a calculating genius who helps to design nuclear warheads. The German translation was published on 15 November 2013 under the title "The illiterate who could count". Immediately after its publication, the book climbed to number 1 in the Spiegel bestseller list. The third novel "Mörder-Anders och hans vänner together en och annan ovän" appeared in Sweden on 23 September 2015, the German translation "Killer Anders and his friends and one or the other enemy" on April 7, 2016. This also reached the top of the Spiegel bestseller list. By the end of 2014, "The Centenarian who stepped out the window and disappeared" sold about 10 million copies worldwide, "the illiterate who could count" about 5 million copies.
