Jose Conca

ES
of Dance
A.k.a. José Manuel Conca Marinero Manuel Marinero

Spanish DJ from Valencia. He is a true legend in the electronic music history of Valencia. Own ideas and own style, he never copied anyone or spinned tracks by fashion. Instead, people went crazy trying to catch his "rare" tunes spinned only by him before. His work was always at the top during years and years, and became famous not only in Valencia. He began into music in the early 80's and started his professional career in the clubs 'Looping' and 'Arena Auditorium' of Valencia with synth-pop tunes. Then, in 1987 became resident dj of the mythical club Chocolate, near the city. The famous party scene known as "ruta del bakalao" came in three years and he was one of the stars. By the early 90's a lot of clubs were born in the zone of Valencia, each of them opened one after another to give the crowd constant party time from Friday night to Monday morning. Jose's time began always on Saturday night. With dark and industrial techno tunes, he sound much different from the commercial style of the other clubs. His career as producer started at this time too. Prodisc was created and it became an important label in the spanish dance music scene. In 1996 the "ruta del bakalao" was destroyed, it is said that police had something to do with that but the truth is that people went bored of that scene and almost all the clubs were closed. Chocolate kept alive and Jose had to give more commercial sounds. He introduced progressive / hard house and trance in order to change the scene and he was lucky. Since 1998 till the end, Chocolate was basically "the place to be". A wonderful combination of sounds and a journey around the best 90's tunes. Jose was outstanding becouse his unique style which could be enjoyed only there with sessions that seemed hypnotic ten-hour-tracks and which exist now, only in our minds. The 14th of July 2001 he had problems with the club staff and had to go out from Chocolate. Then he was contracted in the club Piramide in Castellon to spin hardcore and that was finally the end of his career becouse hardcore was not his style, he was not free to give the people his true sounds. This supposed the end of Chocolate too, three years from the end of Jose's residence there. Now, clubs over Spain book him in weekends for remember parties.
