The format of this selection is quite clever with its welcome and then a series of highly descriptive musical monologues. A quick look at the Joyce Grenfell catalogue shows us that there are only a few CDs currently available. This 18 track compilation compliments what has gone before and gives the full picture of her gentle comedy and observations of life (from a time no more)."Understanding Mother" is a delicious story of a teenage girls observation on her mother now she has reached 39 and is past it! The sad "Three Brothers" is all about sacrifice for others with no thanks. It is nostalgic but still captures the thoughts and actions of people (even today) and so in many respects is timeless. There is some surface noise but overall it is a very good selection. The liner notes come from Neil Kellas and the CD has a running time approx 54 minutes.
