Born and raised in Chicago, scat-singing, coquettish Juanita Ellington started her music career as a studio demo singer. She received vocal coachin and training from Everett (Penny) Pendleton and Richard Evans. Spending many years in Souther California, Juanita worked with Eddie (Lockjaw) Davis and was produced by Otis Blackwell. With deep gratitude she acknowledges other noted jazz mentors in her CD credits. Juanita was the charismatic vocalist for numerous name bands, from Buddy Montgomery to Lawrence (Tricky Trombone) Lofton. She sings on several long playing radio and TV commercials for United Airlines and other major companies. Moving from California in 2007 she quickly embraced Oklahoma as her own starting at the Mantel in Bricktown, moving to Ranch Steakhouse in 2008. Juanita introduction to Tulsa Oklahoma started March 2009 at Jazz Depot in the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Each year Oklahomans continue to appreciate her appearances at the Arts Festival Oklahoma and the Paseo Arts Festival. She chaarmed guest at Makers in Bricktown and at Norma, Oklahoma Jazz in June Festival. Her third season at Cafe Do Brasil Rooftop began in May 2010. After Distinctly Oklahoma Magazine interviewed Juanita, Ron Stahl featured Juanita on the Discover Oklahoma TV show. Juanita performed for the 2010 US Conference of Mayors Convention hosted by the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. KSBI-TV52 Oklahoma Live show with Lyn Hester featured the Duchess several times this year, each time winning *most popular guest of the show*.
