Juval Porat was born in Israel and raised in Germany. Living in Berlin until 2009 he graduated from architecture school and worked in web-design and programming for a while. But Juval’s true love is music and his foothold is his faith. During his childhood in Germany and Israel he began to sing, learned to play piano and guitar and began to compose his own songs when he was a teenager. During his time in Berlin he also took his first steps in pop music and recorded a lot of demo-songs in english and hebrew. Some of these songs can be found on his current album „Optimism“. Juval is a pioneer in several senses: First: He graduated in 2009 as one of the first jewish cantors in Germany after the Holocaust at Abraham-Geiger-College, Berlin. {article: Huffington Post} Second: In December 2009 he arrived in Los Angeles to serve as the cantor for the congregation Beth Chayim Chadashim ("House of Life"). Juval says he is "mostly a cantor, singing, learning, teaching and supporting“. His first official album as „Cantor Juval Porat“ was named „Shalem“. It was released in 2012 and mostly contains songs in hebrew (CD Baby). Third: His new album „Optimism“ is the first album to be released internationally on darumeshi records from Cologne, Germany. His first official pop-album was released in June 2015 and was produced by Juval and four different producers: Ben Weiss, Robb Torres, Daniel Grimmett and Josh Friedmann. „Optimism“ is about about looking for the right one to love and the self-doubts one has during the search. Sweet melodies and thoughtful lyrics take the listener to this journey of emotions and unspoken (but sung) thoughts.
